Bowtec Training Services delivers rigging, lifting and mechanical joint integrity training to contractors working on Hinkley Point C — from our Rigging Centre of Excellence at Pyle, Bridgend, and at the Mechanical Centre of Excellence in Cannington, a few miles from Bridgwater.
Awarded the Rigging Upskill contract at Hinkley Point C
Bowtec has been awarded the Rigging Upskill contract at Hinkley Point C, becoming the first Welsh training provider appointed to deliver a reskill programme on the project.
The programme takes people already working in industry and reskills them into rigging and mechanical lifting roles on nuclear new build. It runs to the ECITB Rigger Reskill standards — nine training standards across six weeks, each assessed by knowledge test and, for the lifting standards, a practical assessment on the rig.
First to put the Cannington rig into service
Delivery is based at the Mechanical Centre of Excellence in Cannington, near Bridgwater, and Rigging Upskill 2026 is the first programme to put its rigging rig into service. The facility gives delegates a full-height structure to work on, so practical assessments are carried out on real lifting arrangements rather than simulated ones.
Fifty BYLOR operatives trained for the project
Fifty operatives from BYLOR — the Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke joint venture delivering the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C — completed rigging and Appointed Person training at our Pyle centre in support of the project.
Getting fifty people through rigging and lift planning in a single programme takes a facility that can run practical assessments at volume without dropping standards. On a project the size of Hinkley Point C, that difference shows up on site.

- Mechanical Joint Integrity — Hand Torque, Flange (MJI-10) — ECITB approved under PCAS, including MJI01 First Principles
- CCNSG Safety Passport — the baseline most contractors require before site access
- Rigging & Fleeting Loads and the supervisory route
- Appointed Person — accountable for planning the lifting operation
- Slinger / Signaller and Slinger Banksman
- Working at Height and MEWP
