What's covered
- Roles and responsibilities in rigging and fleeting, and how they differ from slinger signaller duties
- Legislation - LOLER, PUWER, Work at Height, Manual Handling and the relevant British and international standards
- Moving loads by mechanical advantage over, around, through and under obstacles
- Skating and jacking, runway beams, beam and geared trolleys, chain and lever hoists, wire rope hoists, swing jib and powered hoists, beam clamps and pad eyes
- Delivering a toolbox talk and communicating the risk assessment control measures
- Lift categorisation under BS 7121 - basic and intermediate
- Running a rigging loft - T-card systems, equipment registers and quarantining faulty gear
- Selecting equipment from the lift plan rigging and material list
- Pre-use inspection and fit-for-purpose criteria
- Assembling rigging to certified strong points, sling modes and load protection
- Angles, tension, cross-hauling and unison fleeting with two or more appliances
- Keeping clear of pinch points and crush zones under tension
- Supervising hands-off, and stopping the job when circumstances change
- Dismantling, returning equipment and reporting damage
- Post-operation checks, housekeeping and the team debrief
Assessment & certification
Theory and practical assessment on the final day. Successful candidates are registered with the awarding body and issued the relevant card or certificate.
