Appointed Person — Moving Loads (APML)

ECITB Rigging & Lifting

An intensive four-day course for planning, managing and overseeing complex lifting operations — legislation, practical rigging, force calculation and leading the lifting team. Completing the APML logbook is what qualifies you to sit the TAP01 technical test.

Who it's for

Level 3 riggers moving up, appointed persons, rigging supervisors, lifting engineers and rigging superintendents.

What's covered

  • Legislation and standards — LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, BS 7121, MHSWR, plus HSE and LEEA guidance
  • Duties of the appointed person, and controlling and leading the lifting team
  • Communication protocols and supervision on site
  • Load calculations, centre of gravity and sling tension
  • Snatch blocks and cross-hauling forces
  • Selecting equipment for the load, and producing the lift plan
  • Risk assessments, method statements and toolbox talks

Assessment & certification

Assessed by both theory and practical evaluation. Successful candidates receive an ECITB-approved certificate, recognised nationally across the engineering construction industry and valid for three years.
