Our RTITB Lorry Mounted Crane Training course is designed to provide operators with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate a lorry mounted crane safely and efficiently. This comprehensive training covers all aspects of crane operation, from legislation and duties of operators to practical lifting techniques. The course includes both theory and practical assessments, ensuring that all delegates meet industry standards upon completion.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand legislation and the operator's duties when using a lorry mounted crane.

  • Identify and understand the key component parts of the crane and its associated equipment.

  • Learn and apply the principles of stability when operating the crane.

  • Safely perform tasks involving lifting, lowering, outreaching, and slewing of loads.

  • Operate and manage lifting gear and handling attachments with confidence.

  • Conduct pre-use examinations to ensure the crane is safe to operate.

  • Successfully complete a knowledge examination and practical examination to demonstrate competency.

Certification 

The certification is valid for 3 years, after which a refresher course is required to maintain competency.

Other Information

The venue must meet the following requirements:

  • A secure outdoor practical training area of sufficient size (vehicle length + 5m, or crane's operating radius + 5m, whichever is greater), free from activities, overhead cables, or obstacles, with level ground strong enough to support the crane and its load.

  • A suitable indoor room for theory training with uninterrupted conditions (including a power point).

  • Access to basic welfare facilities, including toilets, running water, and a suitable room temperature.

  • A serviceable vehicle-mounted hydraulic lorry loader crane, meeting current legislation, with a hook and the manufacturer’s handbook.

  • Lifting gear suitable for training, with 3 different types of loads (varying in size, weight, and shape) that are within 75% of the crane’s max safe working load (SWL) at the max radius.

  • 6 cones, barrier tape, or fixed barriers to ensure safety during training.

  • Course Fees: Available upon request.
